Dad wins 15,000 tickets at an arcade, arcade refuses to give him 4000 of the tickets he won: 'The arcade is one of my favorite places to go with my son.'

Should he just let it go, or fight the arcade on this? 

When I was a kid, nothing was more thrilling than racking up a bunch of tickets at the local arcade and trading them in for a toy I never really played with. I remember getting a pair of fake handcuffs from the local Main Event (part bowling alley, part arcade, part laser tag, all fun) and thinking I was going to play all sorts of fun games where I arrest my sister. What ended up happening was I'd put on the handcuffs, keep them on for a second, then take them off so I could actually play something fun. The same goes for Chinese Finger Traps, a staple at every arcade prize counter, often one of the cheapest options after a pack of Smarties. It's fun for a second, but then you start getting worried that your fingers will be stuck in them forever, and you opt for more fun and less scary toys in your toy box. 

I have been to Dave & Buster's, along with other arcades, as an adult, and it's much easier to understand their business model now than when I was a kid. Back then, I didn't understand why my parents wouldn't let me play as many arcade games as I wanted, but now it's all too clear. It's expensive! It's much more expensive than playing a round of bowling or an hour of laser tag. It's much more difficult to get sick of a bunch of arcade games than it is to get sick of playing bowling for hours on end. Even when I was a kid, I understood that the prizes at arcades weren't worth the cost of getting enough tickets to afford them. I could've bought a whoopee cushion at the dollar store instead of using 400 points to get one that costs like $20 in gameplay. You're paying for the experience of playing the games! The house always wins, whether it's in Vegas or not. Unfortunately for Dave & Buster's, even the cheapest of prizes can't offset the fact that they had a net loss totaling $12.5 million in Q2 of 2026. In an age of more and more video game options at home, it's no wonder that even the most successful of chain arcades are closing down. 

The dad in this story loves going to the arcade with his son, and he takes it seriously. He won 15,000 tickets in a game, which is extraordinary! Could you imagine how satisfying it would be to hear the Chuck E. Cheese ticket cruncher munch down 15,000 tickets? Gosh, I miss that thing! Sorry, I'm getting off track. The arcade staff refused to give the dad the full amount of tickets he rightfully earned. He's now at a loss for what to do, and he's getting conflicting advice. Should he just accept his ticket loss, or should he fight the arcade and risk him and his son getting banned forever?
